ABOUT SIS'MOQON
My motivation in pursuing journalism is my deep-rooted desire to amplify underrepresented voices and inspire understanding of the beauty and resiliency of our people. Culture is a large part of my life and I devote a lot of my spare time to ceremony, gatherings and healing. I value these opportunities to connect with community and to learn the knowledge of my Ancestors. I believe that in exploring the world of journalism I have found a valuable outlet to share this knowledge and the unique perspectives of our people’s stories while keeping my cultural fire burning inside. I believe that existing in both worlds has given me the balance and structure needed to reach my true potential. I also believe that Journalism can serve as a powerful tool for social change, and I am passionate to use it to challenge stereotypes, and to preserve and honour the teachings of our Elders.
